United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini stated on Tuesday that the people in northern Gaza are “just waiting to die,” as they feel “deserted, hopeless and alone.”
“The smell of death is everywhere as bodies are left lying on the roads or under the rubble. Missions to clear the bodies or provide humanitarian assistance are denied,” Lazzarini stressed in a social media post, adding that the UNRWA staff aren’t able to find food, water, or medical care.
He once again called for an immediate ceasefire, “even if for few hours,” that would enable individuals trapped in the area to leave and “reach safer places.”
