Lebanon to go under lockdown

The Lebanese government imposed a new lockdown that is set to last from Jan. 7 until Feb. 1, in an effort to control the alarming spread of coronavirus.

The national COVID-19 ministerial committee met Monday to discuss the new measures including imposing a curfew between 6 p.m. and 5 a.m.

More details are set to be declared by the Interior Ministry tomorrow, including the sectors that are exempted from the lockdown.

Speaking after the meeting at the Grand Serail, Caretaker Health Minister Hamad Hasan stated the government will demand from private hospitals to increase their coronavirus intake capacity and boost the number of ICU beds.

He likewise warned that legal action other than fines will be taken against those who violate the lockdown rules .
