Former student leader Gabriel Boric won Chile’s presidential election following the second round of polling, in which he received 55.87% votes, the country’s Electoral Service (SERVEL) stated after counting 99.86% of ballots.
The 35-year-old represented the leftist coalition Apruebo Dignidad (Approve Dignity).
Boric’s rival in the elections, Jose Antonio Kast, already conceded defeat and congratulated him on his victory.
