Libya: Closure of oil fields and ports throughout country

On Sunday, the Facilities Guard in Libya announced the shutdown of oil fields and ports across the country. In a statement released on the “Libya Al-Ahrar” channel’s Facebook page, the group voiced their frustration over the lack of response to their demands after a 10-day ultimatum. They are urging Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dabaiba to formally recognize the agency both administratively and financially under the National Oil Corporation and, by extension, the Ministry of Defense. Similarly, they are requesting that their pay scale be aligned with that of the Oil Corporation employees, including a 67% wage increase along with the payment of bonuses and other benefits as per the law.

Libya’s daily oil production stands at about 1.2 million barrels.

On the political front, Christian Bock, the German special envoy to Libya, recently expressed Germany’s backing for the UN envoy Abdullah Batelli’s efforts and stressed Germany’s aspiration for Libyan stability via a successful electoral process. This support was communicated during a meeting between Prime Minister Dabaiba and the German envoy and his delegation, as detailed in a government press release.

Prime Minister Dabaiba appreciated Germany’s involvement in the Libyan file and its support for both local and international endeavours to bring stability to Libya. He affirmed his devotion to the upcoming meeting organized by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya with the Libyan political factions. Dabaiba also voiced his support for all international initiatives aimed at conducting elections under equitable laws and concluding the transitional phases.
