Libya joins South Africa’s complaint against Israel

The Libyan Presidential Council revealed yesterday, Friday, that Libya had joined the State of South Africa in the genocide case lodged against Israel, before the International Court of Justice, due to its continuing war in the Gaza Strip, while Pretoria presented a new request to the Court of Justice demanding additional emergency measures against Tel Aviv.

The Court of Justice declared that Libya had requested intervention in South Africa’s lawsuit against Israel under Chapter 63 of the Court’s law. It added that Libya believed Israeli actions had escalated to the point of constituting acts of genocide against the population of Gaza. The court confirmed that it had sought answers from Israel and South Africa concerning the Libyan request.

Earlier this month, Libyan media reported that the head of the Supreme Judicial Council had announced his support for South Africa’s genocide case against Israel at the Court of Justice.

For its part, South Africa has presented a new urgent request to the International Court of Justice demanding that it take additional emergency measures against Israel in the genocide case, due to its escalation targeting Rafah in the south from the Gaza Strip.
