Luong Cuong elected as Vietnam’s new president

The Vietnamese National Assembly elected General Luong Cuong (pictured) on Monday as the country’s new president and the successor to the previous president, To Lam.

The new president was elected by 440 delegates, which accounts for 91.67% of the total number of delegates in Vietnam’s National Assembly. Cuong took the oath immediately after being elected. His predecessor, To Lam, was appointed president in May and the General Secretary of the Communist Party in August.
