Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin confirmed that one person died and two others were injured in a stabbing attack in central Paris. The attacker, identified as Armand R., a French national born in 1997, has been detained.
According to Darmanin, the assailant was known to authorities for holding radical Islamist views and having “significant psychiatric disorders.” He had previously been sentenced to four years in prison in 2016 for planning to carry out an attack. Darmanin mentioned that after his arrest, the attacker expressed frustration about the loss of Muslim lives in Afghanistan and Palestine, suggesting a potential motive for the attack.
