Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) called on the European Union member states to give “serious consideration” to sending fighter jets to Ukraine, which has so far been rejected by European leaders. In a resolution ahead of the first anniversary of Russia’s invasion, MEPs also urged the supply of helicopters, “appropriate missile systems and a substantial increase in munitions.”
“Ukraine must not only be able to defend itself but also to regain full control of its entire internationally recognized territory,” the parliament said. It added that the 10th package of sanctions against Russia must be adopted by the end of February and that the EU should start accession negotiations with Ukraine this year.
