Ministry of Health Implements New Measures to Strengthen Rabies Control

As part of the national plan to fight rabies, Minister of Health Dr. Mostafa Al-Farjani chaired a working session at the ministry headquarters, attended by representatives from the Ministries of Interior, Agriculture, Water Resources, and Fisheries, along with relevant institutions and specialized departments.

New Measures to Enhance Rabies Control

During the session, several practical measures inspired by successful experiences in countries such as Japan, Morocco, and Indonesia were agreed upon to improve efficiency in combating rabies, including:

✅ Issuing a unified legal decision for effective rabies control.
✅ Establishing an advanced database to monitor implementation and facilitate information exchange between relevant authorities.
✅ Strengthening vaccination campaigns for dogs and cats, especially in high-risk areas.
✅ Increasing awareness campaigns through media, schools, and cooperation with civil society and farmers’ unions.
✅ Enhancing municipal roles in public sanitation and stray dog management.
✅ Supporting veterinarians and health professionals by providing vaccines and raising awareness of prevention and case management.
✅ Implementing an effective monitoring system to track disease outbreaks and ensure rapid intervention.
✅ Boosting cross-sector cooperation under the “One Health” approach, integrating human and animal health efforts.

Immediate Implementation and Coordinated Efforts

Minister Al-Farjani stressed the need for unified efforts among various stakeholders, along with active participation from civil society and citizens in awareness campaigns. He underscored the importance of immediate implementation of these decisions, ensuring the necessary resources are provided for their effectiveness.

Towards a Sustainable Rabies Control Strategy

This plan represents a notable step forward in Tunisia’s fight against rabies, adopting a comprehensive approach that combines prevention, awareness, and rapid intervention to protect public health and reduce disease spread.
