Mohamed Boughalleb case: Conviction confirmed with sentence increased to 8 months in prison

The Tunis Court of Appeal confirmed the sentence of columnist Mohamed Boughalleb while increasing his ruling from six to eight months in prison.

This decision comes after the public prosecutor of the Court of First Instance of Tunis issued an arrest warrant against Boughalleb, referring him to the criminal court under arrest, following a complaint filed by an executive of the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

The complaint was prompted by media statements and a Facebook post attributed to Boughalleb. Initially, the criminal court of first instance convicted Boughalleb to six months in prison. Dissatisfied with the verdict, Boughalleb appealed, as did the public prosecutor.
