A woman in the city of Monastir killed her boyfriend by poisoning him with rat poison and then burning his body. This was in retribution for his breaking his promise to marry her, according to Farid Ben Jha, the spokesperson for the courts of Monastir and Mahdia, on Thursday.
In a statement to the press, Ben Jha clarified: “The woman called the police at dawn today and acknowledged the crime, telling officers that she planned to commit suicide.” He added that “security officers managed to save her just as she was about to throw herself off a cliff.”
Ben Jha confirmed that “security agents went to the house where the crime happened, where they discovered the body of the man, burned by his girlfriend after she had poisoned him.” He also stated that “an investigation has been opened, and research is ongoing to uncover the full circumstances of the crime
