The Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) has just released the payment figures for the first half of 2024.
Telecompensation saw a slight growth of 1.4% compared to the first half of 2023, with the number of payments reaching 33.16 million transactions, totalling 117,148 million dinars (MD).
These payments are classified as follows: 16.91 million transfers amounting to 26,942.27 MD, 3.16 million direct debits totalling 12,012.84 MD, 12.25 million checks (a decrease of 1.9%) with a value of 61,754.84 MD, and 0.83 million bills of exchange totalling 16,437.80 MD.
For checks, the figures show a rejection rate of 1.45% by number, equating to 177,625 rejected checks, and 2.33% by value.
The highest rejection rate by number was recorded for direct debits, at 40.90%. In terms of value, the highest rejection rate was observed for bills of exchange, at 7.95%.
