Morocco: Suicide of the French Consul in Tangier

Moroccan police initiated an investigation on Thursday into the alleged suicide of the Consul General of France in Tangier, Denis François in his private home. The diplomat’s body was discovered this morning, two months after his appointment.

According to local media, the consul would have ended his life by hanging himself in his room in the early hours of the day.

The Moroccan press adds that Denis François had difficulties in his private life, and directed a request to the ambassador of France and the authorities of his country, to be removed from his functions.

Moroccan police have not uncovered any information in this case at this stage, as French authorities have launched an urgent investigation to determine the circumstances.
