Moscow supports creation of Palestinian state as only solution to the conflict

The head of Russian diplomacy, Sergei Lavrov, reported Monday that Moscow considers the creation of a Palestinian state as the sole “credible” solution to the continuing conflict between Israel and Hamas.

In a statement, Lavrov stated Russia could not agree with those who believe that security can only be accomplished through the war against Hamas. Instead, he emphasised that the creation of a Palestinian state was the best option for achieving a lasting resolution to the conflict.

This position by Russia comes at a time when the Middle East is encountering an escalation of violence with Hamas attacks from the Gaza Strip and the Israeli response. The international community is actively pursuing to find a solution to put an end to this new outbreak of violence.

Russia has long been implicated in mediation efforts in the Middle East and has long supported the creation of an independent Palestinian state alongside Israel.
