Nabil Ammar appointed as Tunisia’s permanent representative to the UN

On the afternoon of Tuesday, March 25, 2025, President Kaïs Saïed welcomed Mr. Nabil Ammar at the Carthage Palace, where he officially presented him with his credentials, accrediting him as the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Tunisia to the United Nations in New York.

This appointment marks an important milestone in Nabil Ammar’s diplomatic career. As a well-known figure in Tunisia’s diplomatic sphere, he will now be responsible for representing Tunisia in all UN bodies, defending national positions, and promoting the country’s interests on the multilateral stage.

This new mandate comes at an especially complex international juncture, where the voices of developing nations, especially those from North Africa, are expected to play a more assertive role within the UN. During the meeting, the Head of State stressed the strategic importance of this mission and the need to strengthen Tunisia’s diplomatic presence in international forums.

The position of Permanent Representative to the UN is one of the most prestigious and demanding roles in Tunisian diplomacy. It requires continuous engagement with the work of the General Assembly, the Security Council, the Economic and Social Council, and numerous specialized agencies.

Nabil Ammar’s appointment aligns with Tunisia’s ongoing diplomatic redeployment strategy initiated by the presidency, aiming to enhance the country’s strategic positioning on key global issues such as peace, sustainable development, human rights, and South-South cooperation.

With this nomination, Tunisia reaffirms its commitment to multilateralism and its adherence to the founding principles of the United Nations Charter.
