The Norwegian Nobel Committee declared on Friday Iranian human rights activist Narges Mohammadi as the winner of the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize.
The committee stated that the award was given to Mohammadi “for her fight against the oppression of women in Iran and her fight to promote human rights and freedom for all.”
The vice president of the Defenders of Human Rights Center, Mohammadi was arrested and imprisoned several times due to her work, particularly her efforts to abolish the death penalty in Iran. She is currently incarcerated in the Evin Prison in Tehran.
