Belgium’s match against Israel, planned for September 6 as part of the first day of the Nations League, will not be played on Belgian soil, the Belgian football federation (RBFA) reported on Tuesday.
This decision follows the rejection of Brussels and other Belgian cities to host the meeting. On June 19, the city of Brussels announced that the match would not be played at the King Baudouin stadium.
The authorities of the Belgian capital have deemed it “impossible to organize this extremely high-risk match” in the city, due to tensions linked to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. This refusal was quickly followed by other Belgian cities, which also refused to host this meeting. The city to host the match has not yet been named, although Budapest is the most frequently cited option.
