The Investigative Committee of Russia (SKR) confirmed on Tuesday it has charged opposition politician Alexey Navalny with the creation of an alleged extremist group.
Navalny founded his Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK) in 2011. In 2019, Russia’s Justice Ministry identified the organization as a foreign agent, and in 2021, the Moscow City Court labeled it an extremist group.
The announcement comes shortly after the country’s authorities removed Navalny’s application from Alphabet Inc.’s Google and Apple Inc.’s digital stores during the elections in Russia. Meanwhile, the FBK claimed it had its content on YouTube and Telegram censored.
