New COVID strain ‘highly likely’ already in Germany – RKI

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) President Lothar Wieler announced on Tuesday that it is “highly likely” that the new coronavirus strain has emerged in Germany. The mutation has now spread to a number of European nations and is thought to be highly transmissible.

Nevertheless, Wieler stated that there is no solid data yet to confirm the presence of the strain in Germany. The country has suspended flights from the United Kingdom, where the new COVID-19 variant has infected the most people so far.
