The Norwegian government announced Monday that it will raise the economic support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) by 100 million kroner ($9.3 million), which will add to the 275 million kroner ($25.6 million) that the Nordic country donated earlier this year.
“UNRWA is the backbone of the humanitarian response in Gaza. The war, accusations made by Israel, continuous attacks on the organization and funds withheld by major donors, have put UNRWA in an extremely difficult financial situation. In this context, it is of importance that Norway is increasing our support,” International Development Minister Anne Tvinnereim remarked.
