Palestinian president Abbas approves government led by Mohammad Mustafa

Newly Palestinian  Prime Minister-designate Mohammad Mustafa has submitted his government’s action plan and proposed formation list to Palestinian  President Mahmoud Abbas for confidence under the Basic Law for its approval.

Consequently, President Abbas issued a decree giving confidence to the nineteenth Palestinian government and issued a decree regarding its formation. The new government is planned to be sworn in before the President next Sunday, March 31, 2024.

The government’s program emphasizes that its political reference is based on that of the Palestine Liberation Organization, its international commitments, and the assignment letter directed from President Mahmoud Abbas to the government.

The government’s program has prioritized addressing the humanitarian situation, encompassing the development of an all-encompassing plan for immediate humanitarian assistance and relief for the population in the Gaza Strip. It also seeks to promote recovery and reconstruction efforts in both Gaza and the West Bank. Also, the program stresses efforts to consolidate and stabilize the financial situation, with the intent of positively impacting economic stability.

 

It furthermore includes plans for institutional reform, restructuring and unification of institutions, combating corruption, raising the level of services and digital transformation, and unification and restructuring of institutions between the two parts of the country.

The government’s work program includes a component on the rule of law, reinforcing the integrity of the financial sector, in particular by strengthening the judiciary, strengthening security and safety and guaranteeing public freedoms.
