Paris adds new measures, but no lockdowns – France PM

The French government decided to introduce additional COVID-19 containment measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus, the country’s Prime Minister Jean Castex (pictured left) announced on Sunday, adding that there will be no full-scale lockdown on New Year’s Eve.

Starting January 15, the COVID-19 certificates will be replaced with so-called certificates of vaccination, meaning that a vaccine will be needed to enter most of the public premises, such as restaurants, museums, and fitness centers, Castex explained during a press conference. From next week, outdoor gatherings will be limited to 5,000 people, while gatherings in indoor settings will be allowed for up to 2,000 people.

The cabinet also reduced the time between the second dose of a COVID vaccine and a booster shot from four to three months, Health Minister Olivier Veran (pictured right), who was also at the conference, noted.
