People’s Movement warns against abstention of Tunisians in legislative elections

People’s Movement has alerted of Tunisian abstention in the next legislative elections because of the social tensions that the country is encountering.

The party called on to take urgent measures permitting the July 25 process to regain popular support and organize “free and credible” elections.

It condemned the overruns documented during the submission of applications. In another context, the party has criticized the government’s response to the economic and social crisis that shakes the country, emphasizing that the executive ”remained cross-arms in front of the vertiginous prices and the shortage of basic products and medicine”.

“Faced with this crisis, the administration has brandished the spectrum of the lifting of the subsidy of fuel and basic products and the sale of several public institutions, in accordance with the diktats inflicted by the International Monetary Fund … Government commitments in place with The IMF will lead to fierce popular uprisings which could threaten the stability of the country and state institutions, ”said the said press release.
