Ranking: Tunisia, the most peaceful country in Maghreb according to 2024 Index

The Institute for Economics and Peace recently issued its 2024 Global Peace Index, ranking Tunisia as the most peaceful country in the Maghreb. With a global position of 74th out of 163 countries, Tunisia has confirmed its relative stability despite the economic and social challenges it is encountering.

Global situation

Iceland has been the most peaceful country in the world, holding the top position since 2008. Austria, New Zealand, Singapore, Switzerland and Portugal follow it. In contrast, Yemen, Afghanistan, South Sudan and Sudan are at the bottom of the rankings, indicating shallow levels of peace.

The overall decline of peace

The authors of the Global Peace Index 2024 note a decline in global peace for the twelfth time in 16 years, with a drop in the global average of 0.56% compared to the previous year.

This decline is illustrated by improved peace levels in 65 countries, while 97 others saw their peace conditions deteriorate.
