The investigating judge at the Sidi Bouzid Court of First Instance decided, this Thursday evening, to release the Director of the Secondary School in Mazzouna, Mohamed Al-Kathiri, while keeping him in a state of freedom. This was confirmed by the official spokesperson for the court, Jawhar Al-Qabsi.
Al-Qabsi explained that investigations are still ongoing in the case related to the collapse of part of the school’s wall, an incident that resulted in the death of three students and sparked a wave of sadness and anger in the area.
On Thursday morning, April 17, 2025, Sidi Bouzid witnessed a demonstration in front of the court organised by several unionists and civil society groups. They called for the release of the school director, who was heard today by the investigating judge as part of the ongoing investigation.
It is worth noting that authorities had decided on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, to incarcerate the school director in connection with the incident, awaiting the outcome of the investigations regarding the circumstances of the collapse and potential responsibilities.
