Roberto Martinez named as new Portugal manager

Roberto Martinez was appointed as head coach of the Portugal national football team on Monday. The former Belgium coach, who stood down following his team’s exit from the World Cup 2022, replaces Fernando Santos who also stepped away from his position after Portugal’s elimination.

“I am very excited to be here,” said Martinez. “I am very happy to represent one of the national teams with the best talent in the world,” he added. The official Twitter page for the Portuguese football team welcomed the news by posting: “A new Leader at Portugal’s service: welcome, Coach Roberto Martinez!”
