Russia calls for creation of independent Palestinian state

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin  stated on Friday that the only way to resolve the Israel-Palestine conflict is by “ending the Israeli occupation and creating an independent Palestinian state.”

Speaking at an event marking the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, Pankin noted that Russia will continue “to assist in achieving national accord and reconciliation and restoring the unity of the Palestinian people.”

However, the official warned that the two-state solution cannot be accomplished if Palestinian society remains divided and urged all political forces to consolidate efforts to achieve the joint goal.
