Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared on Friday a Slovenian diplomat from the embassy in Moscow persona non grata. The diplomat’s expulsion comes as a response to the same action against a Russian consular representative by Ljubljana who was forced to leave the European Union country at the end of March.
The ministry summoned Ambassador Darja Bavdaz Kuret to communicate the decision and to express “strong protest in connection with the groundless deprivation of accreditation of an employee,” as the move was considered by Moscow as a step closer to the “destruction” of bilateral ties.
“Responsibility for the consequences of such a destructive policy lies entirely with the Slovenian side,” it was said in the statement.
