Russian space agency Roscosmos announced on Thursday it is offering a contract worth 1.7 billion rubles ($23.4 million) for the research on the organization of a manned Moon mission.
The agency noted the research should include the development of recommendations and requirements on technologies, rockets and other equipment which should be used, as well as considering medical and biological issues concerning astronauts.
The Soviet Union was the first to make an uncrewed Moon landing and had planned a manned landing in the 1960s but eventually canceled the plans after experiencing launch issues. Meanwhile, the United States made several crewed Moon landings between 1969 and 1972.
