Russia vetoes UNSC resolution on North Korea sanctions

Russia vetoed on Thursday a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution calling for the extension of monitoring sanctions enforcement against North Korea.

While China abstained from the vote, other members of the UNSC were in favor of the draft resolution.

Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya commented during the meeting that the United States and its allies do not want to step away from their “destructive and punitive logic” towards North Korea. He added that the UN panel, monitoring sanctions encofrcement related to Pyongyang, is “playing along with Western approaches [and] reprinting biased information.”
