Russian war against Ukraine: Present situation (Ukrainian Embassy in Tunisia)

MILITARY UPDATE

  • On March 12, anti-Putin armed formations the Russian Volunteer Corps, the Freedom of Russia Legion, and the Sibir Battalion launched hostilities in the Kursk and Belgorod regions of Russia. These formations consist of Russian citizens who carry out combat operations against the Putin regime on their territory.
  • The action of Russian volunteers is intended to show that not all Russians support Putin and are not ready to vote for him in the fake “elections” on March 17.
  • Everything that happens in Russia is a direct consequence of Putin’s decision to launch a criminal and unprovoked war of aggression against Ukraine.

RUSSIAN PSEUDO-ELECTIONS

  • On March 17, Putin’s regime will hold so-called “presidential elections”. Russia’s dictatorship has long had nothing to do with democracy, including open and competitive elections.
  • Putin, whom the International Criminal Court is seeking on suspicion of committing war crimes, has held power for 24 years not through the free expression of the people’s will but rather through manipulation of the Russian Constitution, propaganda, eliminating any political competition, and political violence, including the assassination of significant independent political figures.
  • Holding Russia’s sham “elections” in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine is illegal and will not have any legal consequences. All violators of Ukrainian legislation will be held accountable.
  • Ukraine urges all states and international organizations not to send international observers to yet another farce that the Kremlin is passing off as a presidential election and to refrain from recognizing the results of these “elections.”
  • Ukraine urges the international media and public figures not to assist the Kremlin in creating the illusion of an electoral process and to refrain from referring to this farce as “elections” in the language of democratic states. It is critically important that the democratic world doesn’t give this bloody charade any kind of legitimacy.

AFFIRMING THE TRUTH ABOUT THE RUSSIAN-UKRAINIAN WAR

  • The Ukrainian documentary film 20 Days in Mariupol wins the Oscar award from the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. For the first time in history, the Ukrainian film wins the most prestigious award in the film industry.
  • Footage for the film 20 Days in Mariupol was shot during the barbaric siege of the city by Russian troops. This film shows the truth about the tragedy of the Ukrainian city and those who caused it. Thanks to the award, millions of people around the world will learn this truth.
  • Russian propaganda is trying hard to distort the history of the siege of Mariupol and shift responsibility for its own crimes to Ukraine. Marking the documentary film with an Oscar award negates these attempts.
