Russian war against Ukraine: Present situation (Ukrainian Embassy in Tunisia)

ILITARY ADVANCEMENTS OF UKRAINIAN ARMY

  • Simultaneously with the heavy battles at the front line in the Donetsk and Kharkiv regions, the Defence Forces of Ukraine have important victories over the aggressor.
  • Russian sea minesweeper ‘’Kovrovets’’ has been destroyed in Black Sea. Important Russian military facilities in Sevastopol and on Mount Ai-Petri in the Crimea were attacked, military airfields in Belbek (temporarily occupied Crimea) were hit. Russian oil refineries in Tuapse and Slovyansk as well as the oil terminal in Novorossiysk port, were attacked.
  • Successful attacks by the Ukrainian Defence Forces prove that Russia is unable to defend its rear. The aggressor military potential decreases with every successful hit on Russian objects.

RUSSIAN INTERNAL OPPOSITION

  • On May 23, a Russian Opposition Forum in Support of Ukraine was held in Lviv (Ukraine) with the participation of more than 40 anti-Putin leading opposition groups. Military means alone are not enough for Ukraine to defeat the aggressor. Political leverage is also necessary to weaken the Russian aggressor. Ukraine, to win, also needs allies in the middle of Russia.
  • The appearance of Russians, who seek the defeat of Putin’s regime, is positive. In particular, the forum was attended by Russian volunteers who have been fighting side by side with Ukrainian defenders for a long time.
  • Ukraine is interested in the fact that after the defeat of Putin’s regime, Russia no longer poses a military threat to Ukraine and neighbouring countries and the whole World.

RUSSIA’S EXPLOITATION OF UKRAINIANS AND AFRICANS IN A GLOBAL WAR

  • In a display of cruelty and disregard for international law, Russia is simultaneously exploiting Ukrainians and Africans for its own bloodthirsty purposes.
  • While Russia continues its illegal invasion of Ukraine, the Wagner Group is preying on vulnerable Ukrainians in temporarily occupied territories with deceitful recruitment schemes.
  • Numerous reports indicate that Russian recruiters started to establish the “African Corps” and are intensifying their activities in African countries to find mercenaries for their war of aggression against Ukraine. These actions are a clear violation of international humanitarian law, which prohibits the recruitment of local populations into militaristic groups.
  • This not only threatens the safety of those recruited but also destabilizes the already fragile situation in Africa. Russian media have revealed that Russia is recruiting young African women to work in a factory in Tatarstan that produces the “Shahed” kamikaze drones used to attack Ukraine.
  • The recruitment process for both Ukrainian and African recruits is rife with racism and discrimination. These practices are rooted in harmful colonial stereotypes and have no place in the modern world.
