CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL ATTACK
• On July 8, as a result of Russia’s combined missile attack on Kyiv, civilian objects were damaged; in particular, the new building of the Children’s Hospital Okhmatdyt (maternity and childhood care) was destroyed. Okhmatdyt is the largest children’s, not military, diagnostic and treatment facility in Ukraine and one of the largest in Europe.
• The Russian Kh-101 missile destroyed the building where the children received dialysis; that means they were attached to blood purification systems. The barbarian attack on Okhmatdyt was purposeful. Therefore, this is not a mistake or falling debris, as Russian propaganda tries to show.
• The attack on Kyiv on July 8, in particular, on Ukraine’s largest children’s medical facility, is a war crime that will be investigated both by Ukraine and at the international level.
UKRAINE AND NATO
• On July 11, the three-day NATO Summit in Washington comes to an end. Ukraine realistically assesses the possibilities of the Summit, but emphasizes the importance of the formula that, in the future, Ukraine’s full membership in NATO has no alternatives.
• Russia attacked Ukraine not because of its path to NATO, but because Ukraine was not in NATO in 2014. The Euro-Atlantic integration of Turkey on the border in the 1940s and 1950s prevented the invasion of this country by the USSR. Ukraine follows this successful example. Ukraine offers the Alliance to be its eastern frontier, which will strengthen the capabilities of NATO countries.
• On the sidelines of the NATO Washington Summit, Ukraine, the United States, the Netherlands, Germany, Romania, and Italy signed a joint statement on strengthening Ukraine’s air defence. The NATO Summit also concluded with the endorsement of the Ukraine Compact – document that serves as a supplement to the Joint G7 Declaration agreed upon at the previous NATO Summit in Vilnius and ensures unified and comprehensive security architecture to support Ukraine.
