A huge fire on a highway that occurred in the city of Gwacheon, south of South Korea’s capital killed five and injured at least 37 people on Thursday. Fire authorities said the fire started in a tunnel on the freeway which was initially thought to have been started by a collision between a bus and a garbage truck.
The cause, however, is yet to be determined, after rescuers discovered five dead people in the tunnel after the deadly flames engulfed their vehicles. The tragedy likewise caused injuries to 37 people with three of those being treated for severe injuries. South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has ordered a thorough investigation into the cause of the blaze whilst the fire brigade searched for additional causalities.
The fire has been completely extinguished.
