S. Korea’s worst rainfall in 80 years leaves casualties

South Korea’s Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters announced on Tuesday that the heaviest rainfall in the last 80 years, in the Seoul metropolitan area, has led to casualties, leaving 7 dead so far, while a number of people were injured and some are missing.

The torrential rain has led to severe flooding in certain parts of the country’s capital, Seoul. The flooding cut access to multiple subway stations, halted street traffic, and trapped some individuals in semi-basement lodgings.

The country’s officials decided to raise the disaster warning from Level 2 to Level 3, while the flood warning was upped to the “severe” status.
