The South Korean National Assembly voted on Saturday to approve the motion seeking to remove President Yoon Suk-yeol from office following the short-lived martial law declaration. The final decision will be made by the Constitutional Court within 180 days.
The impeachment motion against the president passed with 204 votes in favour, 85 opposed, 3 abstentions, and 8 invalid ballots. The ruling People’s Power Party noted it would take part in the vote but maintained a negative stance on the impeachment. Nevertheless, the results revealed that 12 lawmakers from the ruling party voted in favour of the impeachment.
