Saidane: Lines of credit granted to SMEs by WB depend on activity of Tunisian banks (Statement)

The World Bank (WB) has approved a loan of US $120 million dollars to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), economist Ezzeddine Saidane told Tunisie Numérique on Monday.

Saidane explained that the disbursement of the loan is done automatically, yet obtaining the lines of credit is linked to specific conditions.

He added that SMEs must first be financed by Tunisian banks in order to benefit from “re-funding” from the World Bank.

The economist underlined that SMEs have difficulty accessing funding, adding that Tunisian banks are also facing a liquidity issue due to “excessive” domestic indebtedness.
