Libya has encountered an intense sandstorm which has caused multiple disruptions over the past two days, especially in the east and centre of the country.
Serious road accidents and forest fires have been registered. Authorities have suspended many flights, with Benghazi airport particularly affected by a thick layer of sand on the runway.
Faced with these severe weather conditions, the days of April 21 and 22 were declared public holidays for public administrations.
The winds, reaching 60 to 70 km/h, should see their intensity drop from the evening of April 23.
