Seizure of 372,000 narcotic tablets on border between Tunisia and Algeria

Elements of the Algerian gendarmerie in the Wilaya of El Oued, on the Tunisian border, were able to seize 372,000 narcotic tablets and apprehend nine individuals with criminal records who were the subject of search warrants, according to a press release from the same security authority on Tuesday.

The same source clarified that “the narcotic tablets were carefully concealed and camouflaged with 180 quintals of onions on board a truck equipped with an advanced tracking device in the Al-Rabah area, to ease the process of following its specific route”.

After carrying out the inquiry and intensifying the investigations, as indicated in the press release, “searches were carried out in suspicious areas, as a result of which 9 people with criminal records were the subject of search warrants in related cases smuggling and theft were arrested. »

The 9 suspects will be directed to the competent judicial police, while 3 others have been identified and are still on the run, according to the same source.

On Tuesday, police in the same Wilaya were able to seize 10.6 kilos of kif, and two individuals were arrested in this case.

In a recent context, the Chief of Staff of the Algerian army, Lieutenant General Saeed Chengriha, cautioned against the growing trend of the phenomenon of smuggling of hallucinogens of all kinds in the country.

He underscored in a speech on Tuesday, in Constantine, in the east of the country, that “the army stands on guard against all those who are behind this dangerous scourge”.
