Senegalese medical team participates in a kidney transplant operation at the University Hospital in Monastir

A Senegalese medical and paramedical team from “Idrissa Boy Hospital” in Dakar participated in a successful kidney transplant operation on April 16, 2025, at the University Hospital of Fattouma Bourguiba in Monastir, as announced by the Ministry of Health in a statement on Thursday.

This participation is part of a partnership deal with the National Centre for Organ Transplantation, aimed at assisting Senegal in launching its first kidney transplant operations by the end of 2025. The program will be carried out with Tunisian expertise, focusing on knowledge exchange, self-funding, and African health sovereignty.

The Ministry stressed that this step reflects Tunisia’s leadership in the field of organ transplantation and its openness to African cooperation. The initiative emphasises Tunisia’s central role in supporting medical training and enhancing health integration between African countries, according to the statement.
