Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez officially recognized Palestine as a state on Tuesday.
At a press conference, Sanchez emphasised that this is a “historic step,” allowing Palestinians and Israelis to achieve peace. He went on to say that this shouldn’t be seen as a jab towards Israel, as the move is based on “respect for international law.”
The prime minister remarked that the Palestinian state should be viable, with the West Bank and Gaza connected by a corridor, and East Jerusalem as the capital.
