Spain to recognize State of Palestine on this date

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez stated on Friday that he would “reveal on Wednesday the date of recognition by Spain of the Palestinian state, ruling out that this recognition would take place on May 21.”

Sánchez clarified, in a television interview, the reason why this recognition was not brought forward on Tuesday, a date mentioned by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the European Union, Josep Borrell, saying: “We are coordinating with other countries “.

Earlier last week, Borrell declared in an interview with Spanish radio that “Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albarez notified him that the date of May 21 had been chosen for the announcement.”

The Spanish socialist Prime Minister did not specify with which countries his government is currently holding discussions on this issue. Last March, the leaders of Spain, Ireland, Slovenia and Malta announced in a joint declaration that they were ready to recognize the Palestinian state.
