At least 35 children lost their lives and another six were injured in a stampede that occurred on Wednesday at a holiday fair in the southwestern region of Nigeria, as reported by Osifeso Adewale, the Police Public Relations Officer of the state, on Thursday.
“So far 35 minors have been documented dead while six others are critically injured and on various medical interventions,” Adewale added.
The gathering, which was originally planned for 5,000 people, drew a crowd exceeding 7,500. Witnesses reported that as parents and their children hurried to enter the venue, they found themselves caught in a crush at the main entrance, with many unable to break free from the throng.
