The Gafsa mining sector in Tunisia is preparing for a two-day strike, planned for May 30 and 31, 2024. This action is organized by the Basic Union of External Services of Mdhilla, the University Mining Union, and the General Union of Mine Workers in the Mdhilla region, affiliated with the Phosphate Company of Gafsa.
This strike follows what the unions characterise as “procrastination on the part of the company to execute some of the professional demands” listed in a demand platform dated July 27, 2023.
A strike notice was issued to warn the company of these unmet demands, marking a point of tension between workers and management in an industry crucial to the regional and national economy.
