Sweden: Iraqi Man Who Burned the Quran Killed by Gunfire

The Swedish police have confirmed the killing of Iraqi refugee Salwan Momika, who was known for repeatedly burning and desecrating the Quran, a series of actions that sparked widespread anger across the Muslim world.

According to reports from Agence France-Presse and local media, Momika was shot and killed inside his apartment in Stockholm, Sweden’s capital. The police confirmed that a gunman entered his apartment and opened fire, resulting in his death.

Momika had formerly faced legal action for inciting hatred against an ethnic group, in connection with his actions involving the Quran. In February of the previous year, the Swedish Migration Court had approved his deportation from the country, but in March of the same year, Momika revealed that he had left Sweden for Norway seeking asylum.
