Sweden to discontinue UNRWA funding

Swedish Minister for Aid and Foreign Trade Benjamin Dousa revealed in an X post on Friday that Sweden will no longer be funding the United Nations (UN) Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

He explained that Knesset’s recent decision to ban UNRWA from operating in Israel will make aid distribution much more difficult. Therefore, Stockholm will be forced to pass its resources to other organizations, such as the World Food Programme, UNICEF, etc.

Dousa underlined that Israel has an “extensive responsibility” for the civilian population. He stressed that more trucks must enter the Gaza Strip.
