The sad news has dropped! Tunisian Olympic swimmer Ahmed Ayoub Hafnaoui will not partake in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
A real shock for the swimming world because the 21-year-old swimmer was one of the favourites in the 400m freestyle, 800m freestyle and 1,500m freestyle.
He showed himself at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games by winning the gold medal in the men’s 400m freestyle despite the slowest time of the qualifiers in the final.
The native of Métlaoui confirmed during the 2023 World Swimming Championships with three medals: gold in the 800m and 1,500m and silver in the 400m.
He had not been able to do better at the beginning of the year during the 2024 edition.
In recent months, Ahmed Hafnaoui has shifted several times to change training groups and coaches. Last February, he attempted to obtain a new visa to continue training in the United States of America with coach Mark Schubert. Since then, the Tunisian has announced that he no longer plans to train on the other side of the Atlantic.
