Syrian President Bashar Al Assad has announced a decree to dismiss Imad Khamis from his post as the country’s prime minister, state media reported on Thursday.
Khamis has held the post since 2016 but will now be replaced by Hussein Arnous. There was no cause provided in state media for the unexpected move.
Mr Arnous, born 1953, has been working as water minister since November 2018 and was before the public works and housing minister.
The short statement issued on Thursday said that Al Assad has tasked Mr Arnous with the duties of the prime minister as well as his current responsibility as water minister.
