Towards welcoming 12,000 Tunisians to work in Italy

The President of the Italian Council, Giorgia Meloni, confirmed today in a press release, following her supervision, with President Kais Saied, of the signing ceremony of the deals at Carthage Palace that “Tunisia cannot become a country of arrival of migrants”, in support of the statement of the President of the Republic on the firm position of Tunisia which declines to be a country of establishment or transit for irregular migrants.

Meloni also appreciated the partnership between the two countries, which has made it possible to acquire numerous results at the level of immigration and in the fight against people smugglers, underscoring the necessity to strengthen cooperation and the evacuation work of migrants by involving international organizations and regulating migratory flows in an equal manner. In this context, she mentioned an agreement which permits the legal reception of 12,000 Tunisian immigrants.

She also revealed that other similar agreements will follow those signed today and will be concluded with the Ministers of Defense, Culture and Education as part of future visits to Tunisia, as she indicated.
