The United States has been seeing shocking policies since Donald Trump’s return to the White House — ones that are puzzling even to the most seasoned experts and analysts.
The latest “innovation” by his administration in addressing what it calls “fraud” in the Social Security Administration (SSA) implicates a highly controversial step: the inclusion of thousands of immigrants in the federal death database, as a way to relieve the state of obligations toward them and accelerate their deportation.
According to reports issued by American media on Thursday, April 10, 2025, over 6,000 immigrants, mostly of Latino and Hispanic origin, were listed as “deceased” — effectively stripping them of all social rights and rendering them “legally non-existent” in the U.S.
The Social Security number, made up of seven digits, grants its holder numerous rights in the U.S., including employment, opening bank accounts, renting homes or businesses, paying taxes, and completing administrative procedures. Nevertheless, by being added to the death registry, these individuals are effectively denied access to their jobs, property, and financial accounts — a move one official, speaking to The Washington Post, described as “social death.”
This plan is said to have originated within the Presidential Committee for Government Efficiency (DOGE), headed by billionaire Elon Musk, under the pretext of reducing public spending. According to documents obtained by The New York Times, the first batch included 6,300 immigrants, labeled as “convicted criminals and suspected terrorists.”
Trump himself has frequently made unfounded claims about “millions of deceased individuals” still receiving Social Security payments — even alleging, for example, that the system continues to pay benefits to people aged between 140 and 160 years. These claims have been repeatedly debunked by experts.
Observers believe that the policy architects have simply translated Trump’s conspiracy theories into administrative action, despite the lack of any evidence. As seen in previous decisions, such as global tariff escalations, the U.S. president appears to prioritize political gain over data accuracy — as long as it serves his agenda and election goals.
With growing public outrage and human rights criticism, many questions remain about the future of this shocking policy, and its legal and humanitarian consequences, especially under an administration seemingly determined to wage a migration war to the bitter end.
